Response from Alun John Richards to the Richard Commission |
| I am a committed supporter of the concept
of devolved government for Wales and campaigned long and
hard for the Yes vote. I look forward to the time when
Wales will have such a government with the greatest possible
powers.
However it would be a disaster for Wales if the scope of this present Assembly were to be widened. In fact it would be better for Wales if the Assembly were abolished until such time as system of candidature could be devised that would ensure the election of competent persons. The present AMs have shown themselves to be totally indifferent to the needs of the people of Wales. Their aim seems to be to crank up their salaries, to squander public money with the profligacy of an oil sheikh and to shamelessly create a "Cronyocracy" housed in a tasteless and unnecessary palace.
