UKIP WALES FORMAL SUBMISSION TO
THE RICHARD COMMISSION
For the record, The UK Independence Party
in Wales wish to state its position on the future of
the National Assembly of Wales.
We are implacably opposed to the existence
of the National Assembly of Wales, which we regard as
nothing more than an instrument, in the European Union
of the Regions long-standing regionalisation process,
which will eventually lead to the break up of the United
Kingdom as we know it.
The plan to devolve the United Kingdom
into 12 EU Regions, each to be administered directly
from Brussels by the twin-stated mechanisms of the Regional
Assemblies and the Regional Development Agencies, has
already been mapped out. It is our contention that regional
policy will be determined, principally, by the Committee
of the Regions.
We therefore seek the total abolition
of the National Assembly of Wales, and hereby suggest
the retention of local government at the County system,
administered directly from Westminster. This would allow
democracy within the UK generally, and Wales in particular,
to be promoted at County and Metropolitan level, and
not at EU Regional level.
We are further of the opinion that this
process of, so-called, devolution for democratic reasons,
promoted by successive UK governments, has been, and
remains, deliberately deceitful.
Kindly acknowledge receipt.
Yours faithfully
David J. Rowlands, Chairman
On behalf of UK Independence Party, Wales
